A Rainbow of 28 Cocktail Recipes with Vodka for Pride Month

May 31, 2022

Because vodka is a clear liquor that doesn’t impart its own taste into cocktails, it’s a super versatile option to have on your bar. Take advantage of this distilled alcoholic beverage’s characteristics to create a whole rainbow! Each of these cocktail recipes with vodka is delicious and stunning on its own, but together they can be even better.

How to Select Vodka for Cocktails

So many classic cocktails and plenty of creative and modern varieties use vodka as the alcoholic base. It’s a great way to add a kick to your drinks without the liquor adding much of its own flavor. However, with so many different brands of vodka out there, it can be difficult to know where to start.

If you have a local distillery that you can support, that’s a great place to begin. Many will let you taste the alcohol before buying a bottle, and some even serve cocktails so you can try out the vodka in the wild. While it’s not available everywhere, a vodka local to me has become my go-to, so check out Black Button.

When tasting good vodka, any flavor in it will be quite subtle, but it shouldn’t just taste like alcoholic water. The grains used to create it – wheat, potatoes, corn, and others – will leave behind a light flavor. Vodka can also have a slight spice to it and maybe even a little brininess.

If you are buying imported vodka and celebrated Pride month with this rainbow of drinks, many people have decided to boycott Russian-produced vodka, due to their anti-LGBT policies. However, vodka can be made anywhere, so there are still plenty to choose from. Always do your research on specific brands!

A few widely available vodka brands that I enjoy (that are manufactured in Sweden, France, the UK, or the US) include Smirnoff, Absolut, Svedka, and Grey Goose. Also check out SpiritHub for craft varieties. My advice is to go with the most affordable vodka that meets your personal standards of smoothness.

Choose one, a few, or the whole rainbow to serve! The bonus to these all being made with unflavored vodka is that you don’t need to have a full bar to create these delicious drinks. While all do include mixers, and many even have liqueurs, other liquors, or fun garnishes, it’s ultimately up to you how wild to make your rainbow celebration.
