Virtual Cocktail Party Ideas for Mom

Once you have found the perfect drink to share with your mom this Mother’s Day, you’ll need to figure out how you can enjoy it together. If you don’t live with your mom, that could be tough. Here are a few ideas that you can add into your video chat with mom!

Send a Cocktail Making Kit

If your mom lives locally, package up all the necessary ingredients and materials, and leave it on her doorstep. If she’s far away, you can plan ahead to send a care package with some (well-wrapped) glasses, a cute cocktail shaker, and some simple garnishes or mixers.

Mixology Lesson

You and your mom can choose to create the same drink, and try following the recipe at the same time. Or you can each pick your own from the list of breakfast cocktails, and teach the other how to make it. Either way, it’s a rewarding way to bond and you get to enjoy a nice drink afterwards!

Have a Garnish Competition

While you can’t test taste each other’s creations, you can definitely compare to see who makes the prettiest, most outlandish, or coolest version of your cocktail. This can be even more fun if you have siblings or get spouses and dad involved. You can have different categories, mail out prizes to the winners, or just earn bragging rights for your well-decorated concoctions.

Play a Drinking Game

Video chats can be more difficult than hanging out in person, unless you have a planned activity. Since you’re mixing up cocktails anyway, you might as well add in a  fun game that tells you when to drink! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Play “Never Have I Ever” with travel destinations, and swap adventure stories.
  • Break out the trivia cards, and take a sip whenever you get an answer wrong.
  • Try a live match of Words With Friends, taking a drink whenever you get a double or triple bonus.

Learn Something New Together

Go down a Wikipedia rabbit hole and see what interesting things you may learn. Start with your cocktail or an ingredient from it, and then click on links in the articles to find something interesting. You can each go off on your own and share your findings, or share your screen and choose a path together.

Cook a Recipe Together

Breakfast cocktails are only part of the equation. For even more virtual Mother’s Day fun you and your mom can try cooking together as well. Follow the same recipe at the same time, and see who makes the best looking dish. Here are a few recipes for inspiration:

    1. No need to wait! You should probably test them all out ahead of Mother’s Day so you know which is the best pick. 😉

    1. Haha I agree! There’s still some time to experiment with a few before picking a signature selection for Mother’s Day.

  1. I don’t drink (and can’t due to my epilepsy), but cocktails have ALWAYS intrigued me! I love the mixture flavours, colours, layers, decorations, etc. I definitely think in the future I’ll try my hand at making a selection of virgin cocktails so I’m able to try some of the most popular kinds out there.

    1. There are some cocktails that absolutely need to alcohol to work, but plenty that don’t! I haven’t tried too many virgin cocktails myself, but there are a few here you could definitely adapt.

  2. I love your virtual cocktail party ideas! I’m going to suggest it to my mom because this is totally something our family would do… one time we had a bunch of “random alcohol” to use up, lots of flavored stuff and things that don’t get used often, so we had a family cocktail mixing competition haha!

    1. I love family cooking competitions so much! And adding cocktails to the mix is totally perfect for a virtual get-together, because they are easy to make single serving and you can judge them on appearance.

    1. I am missing brunch too, but I’ve been trying to make some of my favorite brunch recipes for just my husband and myself until we can host a big party again! Enjoy your mimosa!
